Great article. Luckily we are doing a lot of these. Morrisby is a brilliant tool not just for the students but to keep track of destination data for the students moving on and to have all their data in one place.
I agree that there needs to be more collaboration - some schools have said that OFSTED would like careers to track them for 3 years which is near on impossible at the moment as there is not one shared database that can be quickly accessed and updated (instead lots of excel spreadsheets being shared around)
I complete agree with the issues surrounding apprenticeships. A lot of my YR11 students are really interested in getting an Apprenticeship but there aren't many around, and even when they apply they get no response. The government are doing lots of promotion now such as NAW but not addressing the core problem which is the lack of employers! (especially for school leavers!) Lets hope the government decides to scrap functional skills for under 19 and get apprenticeships back to what they used to be!
Great article Janet. How about an article on the new statutory guidance for GBs and how it will impact ITPs? The Learning Curve are flying the flag for ITPs but would value your thoughts.
Thanks for the summary, Janet. I love the practical approach you take; specifically I was drawn to your second point where you encourage a whole school approach to triage, encouraging (all) staff that have contact with students to input into the process. Linked to your "working smarter, not harder" comment, I'd suggest AI and existing technologies could share some of the triage needs, indicating to careers leads those students who need more, or more immediate, support, for human follow up. As you say, even a 15-minute interaction could make a huge difference in the direction of a young person. (PS. huge thanks for including Morrisby!)
Great advice but where have all the Apprenticeships gone? So much more difficult everywhere st all Levels.
I agree, lots of training providers offering paid for training but no placements. It's a real problem

Thanks for the reply Sally-Ann, however, as I'm not an expert in ITPs and their challenges I'll have to pass on that idea.

This is an excellent article Janet - a very useful summary with valuable solutions.
Thank you!
